Kolkata Police moves HC against bail grant to passport fraud accused Deepak Mondal

Kolkata Police has filed a petition in the High Court to challenge the bail granted to Deepak Mondal, a temporary postal worker arrested in connection with a passport forgery case. Mondal was granted bail by the Alipore Court on December 8, subject to conditions. However, Kolkata Police intends to contest the decision, citing concerns about the ongoing investigation and the need to uncover more details about the forged passport network.

Mondal was arrested on December 14 as part of an investigation into a passport forgery racket involving multiple individuals. During questioning, Mondal revealed that he had been paid ₹3,000 for delivering forged passports to Somresh Biswas, another key figure in the fraud operation. This statement is considered significant in the investigation, which is focused on identifying the full extent of the fake passport distribution network and its connections to other individuals involved in the crime.

In addition to Mondal and Biswas, Kolkata Police arrested Taraknath Sen, a third individual, from Basirhat. Both Mondal and Sen are temporary postal employees. The police believe that all three suspects were involved in the production and delivery of forged passports as part of a broader counterfeit passport racket. Authorities are continuing to gather evidence and are expanding their investigation to identify any other individuals or groups linked to the illegal operation.
